Specific Information

Hello excellent readers

I am at LPMP now, sharing ideas with English teachers from Cilacap Regency.  There are 21 participants and I hope there are some other teachers coming soon.

I am sure you have already read and had something in your mind related to the previous posts.  You are free to comment and share your brilliant ideas to to make this blog better.

A.    SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Locating specific information is the easiest of all the reading strategies.  The questions usually ask who, what, where, when, and occasionally why. The answers to the questions are right there in the text.
Mencari informasi khusus adalah hal termudah dalam strategi membaca. Pertanyaan yang digunakan:  who (siapa), what (apa), where ( di mana), when ) kapan), dan kadang digunakan  why (mengapa).  Semua jawaban tersedia dalam teks.

Example
Penny Pencil was long, thin, and yellow.  She was a number 2 pencil.  She lived in an orange pencil box in a child’s desk.  She liked to draw pictures, but she didn’t like to do school work.  Her favorite time of day was when the child she belonged to went home.  When she was alone in her pencil box, she slept and dreamt of writing beautiful poems that would make her famous.

Right There Questions:
1.       What was the pencil’s name?
The answer is right there in the first sentence!!Penny!
2.       Where did Penny live?
It’s in sentence #3.  She lived in an orange pencil box!
3.       What did Penny like to do?
She liked to draw pictures.

Now…It’s Your Turn!
4.       What didn’t Penny like to do?

Carilah dengan menggunakan kata-kata yang sama dalam pertanyaan dengan kata-kata yang ada dalam teks. Tahukah kamu? Benar, didn’t like.  Sekarang kamu tahu jawabannya. Lakukan hal yang sama pada pertanyaan-pertanyaan berikutnya.

5.       When was Penny’s favorite time of day?
6.       What did Penny dream of doing?

Let’s Practice
Mike’s New Bike
Mike was starting the fourth grade in the fall. He felt that he was old enough to ride a bike to school like all the rest of the kids. There were two problems! The first was that he didn’t know if his mom and dad would let him ride a bike to school. The second and bigger of the two problems was that he didn’t have a bike, because he and his parents had just moved to town that summer.
Mike set out to solve his problems. First, he asked his mom and dad if they would let him ride a bike to school in the fall. To his surprise they said, “Sure, Mike, you’re old enough but you don’t have a bike!” Mike thought a while about how to solve this problem. He thought a lot about how to solve this problem. Finally, he thought of a solution. He asked the neighbors that he knew on his block if he could mow their lawns to earn money to buy a bike. Since all of them needed their lawns mowed, they told Mike that would be fine, if his parents agreed. Mike’s parents were pleased that he had found away to afford a bike himself. They agreed, after teaching Mike how to run a lawn mower properly. Mike mowed lawns all summer.
Finally, he had enough money to buy his bike. He bought a beautiful black and red Mountain Bike. He rode it to school proudly the very first day!
